This has been a week of many news in the FIA World Rallycross championship. Some of the teams have already confirmed with which drivers will compete this 2017, with new additions and reinforcements.

We start with the EKS team that has confirmed Finnish driver Toomas Heikkinen as second driver for this season. Topi will once again be the squire of the current FIA World Rally Championship, Mattias Ekström, a tandem that worked perfectly last season, in which EKS took the individual Championship and the team championship. As they themselves have commented … why change a winning team?

Continuing with the news, it is necessary to make a special mention to the MJP Team Austria team, which is strongly committed to this new season and has created a great team to fight with the best. The team consists of double DTM champion Timo Scheider, who has already made a small foray into the championship in the past two seasons. The German driver will have as teammate Kevin Eriksson, the young Swedish driver who in 2016 was less and more finished the season with the best overtaking of the championship, which led him to victory in the test held in Germany.

Finally, mention the unexpected news of the week. Frenchman Guerlain Chicherit and British company Prodrive will develop a new rallycross car, the new Renault Megane RX, for the 2018 FIA World Rally Championship. The new Supercar will be based on the Renault Megane IV and will be designed from the outset by Prodrive. The entire car will be designed at its headquarters in Banbury, UK, including the development of a two-liter turbocharged engine. Chicherit will use the 2017 season to enter participate in some rounds and thus test the Megane RX in the autumn of 2017. Chicherit will present the car in Loheac the first weekend of September.
