Timmy Hansen leads an epic first day at CatalunyaRX

Timmy Hansen was the fastest driver on the first day of the World RX of Catalunya, ahead of his little brother Kevin and Russian Timur Timerzyanov. It was a very busy day with different track incidents, a lot of contact and lots of overtaking; all the basic ingredients of the RX. On Sunday will be held the second phase of qualifying sessions, the semifinals and the grand final, also the local test Hot Wheels RX Stars Race with Pol Espargaró, Dani Clos or Gerard Farrés.

The fifth edition of the World RX of Catalunya will be remembered for being one of the busiest. In this first day of the CatalunyaRX 2019 have held more than 30 races corresponding to the first phase of the qualifying sessions and many of them have experienced remarkable incidents that are part of the game rallycross.

The two brothers Hansen were the fastest riders on this first day of the CatalunyaRX 2019. The oldest, Timmy, has been invincible and has been classified first in both Q1 and Q2. For his part, Kevin, the little one, has followed his wake, finishing second in both sessions. The third fastest driver of the day was Russian Timur Timerzyanov.

Timmy has stressed that “it’s great to be here after the incident in Abu Dhabi, the car works well and I’m comfortable, it was a perfect Saturday for me.” Kevin explained that “Q1 has been very tough, but I am very happy with the result of the day”. Finally, Timerzyanov says that “I could not be in this press conference on Saturday and therefore I am very happy.”

The Andorran driver Albert Llovera, who returns this year to complete the World Championship of the RX2 category, finished the first day of the CatalunyaRX in 13th position. In Q1 Llovera finished 11th, while in Q2 it was 13th because he could not make a good start (key moment in rallycross). Tomorrow, Sunday, he will have to give the maximum of himself to finish in the top 12 after Q3 and Q4 to get access to the semifinal of the World RX of Catalunya.

It was the first day for local car cross stars and newcomers from other modalities of the national motorsport. Dani Clos has been one of the best among the special guests of the Hot Wheels RX Stars Race. For his part, MotoGP rider Pol Espargaró has enjoyed his first experience in this Carcross race where he has played a great role. Farrés, who already participated in the race in the previous edition, has not been so lucky and has seen how the contacts allowed in this modality have left her without many options for today. Cristina Gutiérrez and Cedric Gracia have also enjoyed a good first day at the World RX of Catalunya. Ivan Piña has been the best cross-country rider of the Hot Wheels RX Stars Race. It has been the fastest in both Q1 and Q2.

Drift, classic cars and varied activities to make a perfect day
During this first day of the World RX of Catalunya all attendees have also been able to enjoy good moments off the rallycross track. Throughout the afternoon, in the area of ​​the Circuit Circuit School of Barcelona-Catalunya, the qualifying sessions of the first round of the Spanish Drift Championship were held.

The paddock has been one of the most sought-after places by the public, since access is free for everyone who has an entrance. Public, supercars and pilots share a very special space. And the fan zone with simracing activities, radio controlled vehicles and miniature track are the extra fun for all the spectators.

More than 30 races and a lot of excitement for Sunday.
The second phase of the qualifying sessions that will mark the 12 pilots will be held tomorrow. They will be on the starting grid of the semifinals in each of the categories (World RX Supercar, Super1600, RX2 and the Hot Wheels RX Stars Race of carcross). In addition, the public can enjoy all the activities of the fan zone and paddock.
