The virutal WorldRX of Catalunya - CatalunyaRX FIA World Rallycross

The virutal WorldRX of Catalunya

For a couple of weeks now, CatalunyaRX has been running the #homelaps campaign, in which it challenges RX fans to compete with the DIRT Rally 2.0 rallycross video game.

But now, the international promoter of the FIA World RX Championship has created RX Esports. The current situation worldwide caused by the Coronavirus forced the CatalunyaRX scheduled for the weekend of 18 and 19 to be postponed – we hope to announce the new date soon. Along the same lines, the World RX of Portugal also announced a change of date, which was scheduled to take place in early May. In this context, the promoter of the FIA World Rallycross Championship has launched a virtual Rallycross competition with the Dirt Rally 2.0 video game.

The intention of the international promoter is to carry out each of the races that as a consequence of the Covid-19 have had to be postponed. Thus, until today it has been confirmed that on Sunday, April 19, the initial date on which the World RX of Catalunya was held, it will have the first race of this virtual World RX 2020.

The competition will have the same usual format as a World Rallycross event, with qualifying rounds (Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4), the semifinals and the grand final.

The races will be conducted using DIRT Rally 2.0 on PC via Steam.

Which drivers will be on the virtual starting grid?

Little by little, the drivers who will be part of this race will be announced. Some of them will be the permanent drivers of the World RX, but drivers from other categories may be added. Among them, a Spanish driver that we will soon be able to announce!

World RX drivers vs fans

This championship will also allow rallycross fans and regular Dirt Rally 2.0 players to have the opportunity to compete against the World Championship drivers. The championship will feature wild cards so that the fastest fans can participate in official virtual races.

This Saturday the first online qualifier was held with approximately 10,000 participants. Fans had 24 hours to complete a 6-lap race (5 laps + 1 joker) with the fastest possible time to be on the starting grid on April 19.
