Johan Kristoffersson wins the Logitech G World RX of Catalunya

The current leader of the world championship has been remade after a gray morning and has prevailed over Timmy Hansen and Anton Marklund.

The Logitech G World RX of Catalonia has held without public and fully complying with the security protocols against Covid-19.

The leader of the world championship leaves the Logitech G World RX of Catalonia, which has been held without an audience. Johan Kristoffersson took the victory after a final that had everything: accidents, mistakes and a lot of emotion. With two rounds remaining in the 2020 FIA World Rallycross Championship, Kristofferson widens his margin over Mattias Ekstrom.

The leader hasn’t had an easy day

Mattias Ekstrom is determined to fight for the world title until the math tells him otherwise. The Swedish rider, currently in second place in the World RX, had to fight for victory at the Logitech G World RX in Catalonia to prevent current world championship leader Johan Kristoffersson from further escaping him in the standings. His efforts have not paid off in the final, where a serious mistake has left him without options.

From early in the morning, Ekström has dominated the qualifying sessions, becoming a Top Qualifier and taking very valuable points to continue in the fight of the World Cup. This victory in the morning rounds makes even more sense when his main rival (Kristoffersson) has been in fifth position of the general classification. Also noteworthy is Andreas Bakkerud’s Q3, who has imposed himself with authority and has climbed to second in the global ranking. The top 5 of the morning rounds have been set up by Ekstrom, Bakkerud, the Hansen brothers and Kristoffersson.

Kristoffersson has woken up late

In the afternoon it was the turn of the finals of the Logitech G World RX de Catalunya. In the first semi-final, Johan Kristoffersson recovered from his poor performance this morning and prevailed over his World RX pursuer, Mattias Ekstrom. In third position was Robin Larsson, who together with the other two riders, have gone to the grand final of the Logitech G World RX in Catalonia. In the second semifinal, Andreas Bakkerud has obtained the victory, over Timmy Hansen, winner of the Logitech G World RX of Pirineus-Barcelona 2030 and Anton Marklund.

The great final of the Logitech G World RX de Catalunya has had it all. At the first corner, which always puts on a great show, Larsson and Bakkerud were knocked out after a start where Kristoffersson took the lead. Ekstrom, who did not start well, kept up until lap four, when she made a serious mistake that forced her to say goodbye to the victory. Finally, Kristoffersson has not lost the lead and has been proclaimed champion of the Logitech G World RX de Catalunya, ahead of Timmy Hansen and Anton Marklund.

Second round of the Super 1600

The second round of the Super 1600 category has also been played at the Logitech G World RX in Catalonia, framed within the Euro RX. The most outstanding drivers of the qualifying sessions were Yuri Belevskiy, who yesterday won the Logitech G World RX of Pirineus-Barcelona 2030, Gergely Marton and Artur Egorov.

To close the morning session, the semi-finals of the Super 1600 category have been disputed and, apart from the three drivers already mentioned, Josef Susta, Marat Kniazev and João Ribeiro have qualified for the grand final of the afternoon, where Yuri Belevskiy has repeated victory. In second place came Marat Kniazev and, closing the podium, Gergely Marton.
