Kristofferson’s epic come back crowns him as the first champion of the new electric era, with Hansen and Veiby completing the podium
Hundreds of spectators were thrilled by the new power and acceleration presented by the new electric cars on the Hell circuit
The World RX 2022 kicked off last weekend in Hell, where drivers and cars were ready to electrify the competition with the new electric era. Power and acceleration were the stars of the weekend where Kristofferson set the fastest lap in the history of the World RX: 37.715s.
A dedicated audience enjoyed a show of overtaking, power and adrenaline, just like the five times World Champion, Johan Kristofferson, who experienced a small setback in the semi-finals when his car stopped working momentarily, a scare that left the Swede without a place in the Top3 of the final grid. Kristofferson didn’t think twice, the power and acceleration of his new Volkswagen RX1e was his greatest ally and, together with his experience, allowed him to come from behind and take his 28th victory, leaving Hansen and Veiby to complete the podium.
The five-time world champion is crowned as the first driver to win a race in the new electric era and was very happy at the end of the race: “I’m super happy for the team, especially: finishing in the top three and leading both the drivers’ and teams’ championship is an incredible effort. I was very disappointed after the semi-final, but it was fantastic to come back”.
The World Championship has only just begun, but Johan Kristofferson is already hinting that he wants to win his fifth championship cup and add to his trophy cabinet by becoming the first champion in this new era.
