Ares Lahoz, who will compete in the Car Cross category, is the only female representative of Catalunya RX 2021
The young woman from Lleida will be accompanied by ten more pilots, and all of them will race to achieve victory at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya
In just one week the Catalunya RX returns, the inaugural round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on July 23 and 24. Apart from the 34 confirmed drivers in the World RX and Euro RX3, as well as those in the new electric category RX2e, the list of pilots who will participate in the Open Car Cross has already been announced.
In a world full of men, the young Ares Lahoz stands out, the only female representative of Catalunya RX. The one from Lleida arrives with great enthusiasm to the competition: “I am very excited to participate in this test because it is very well known worldwide, and although we are not within the preferred categories, it is a great opportunity to make myself known in this world”.
A family passion
The six-time champion of Spain and seven of Catalunya in Autocross, Delfín Lahoz, has a very warrior and competitive daughter. Despite having lived with her father’s hobby from a very young age, Ares didn’t start in the world of cars until relatively recently, approximately six years.
“I’ve been in the world of Autocross since I was born, even before I was born, because my mother, when she was pregnant with me, was already going to races with my father. I’ve always lived it since I was little, but competing had never caught my attention. It scared me and I had a lot of social pressure, but when I was 15, I made up my mind and told my father that I wanted to run”.
So, he started training at the Circuit de La Serra de Mollerussa with a Speed Car. At his premiere in 2015 at the Circuito de Motorland in Alcañiz, where he was on the starting grid for the first time, Ares began to making a place for himself among all men.
Future promise of Autocross
Last year she won the title of Spanish Autocross Champion in Division III, after winning the last round of the event, held at the Circuit de Lleida with the participation of 61 drivers. He beat pilots like Joan Bautista, Igor Aguirrebeña, Thomas Christol, Jeoffrey Calmettes or Carlos Hernando, defending champion.
This triumph, the second in a row after the one achieved a month earlier in the State one held in the Sierra de Mollerussa, made Ares the first woman to win an absolute title in Spain in the history of the Autocross modality. The driver hopes that this success will motivate other girls to start in the world of Motorsports: “I am very proud to have achieved this title and to be able to be a reference for other people and girls who want to start. Anyone can achieve it, since it isn’t only a men’s sport, women can achieve the same as them”.

That way, the one from Mollerussa, who began to attend as a spectator in Autocross races following in the footsteps of her father, now, at 21 years old, will take a very important step in making the leap to the absolute category.

Ares affirms that there will be a lot of emotion and spectacle: “Rallycross races are very short, but intense. In addition, people hope to relive what we lived before the pandemic, world-wide competitions where people from different countries come together”.
