Little by little, new confirmed pilots are being discovered in the Catalunya RX competitions on July 23 and 24 in Barcelona
Niclas Grönholm and Krisztian Szabo will participate jointly under the Gronholm RX banner
The Catalunya RX is taking shape. In Kevin Hansen’s latest confirmation, new participating drivers have been added. One of them is Timo Scheider, the German pilot who achieved success in the German DTM Championship. It will be the seventh time he has participated in the FIA World Rallycross Championship in Catalunya. He got his best position last edition, finishing eighth. This year, he will again compete with the All-Inkl Motorsport team, at the wheel of the Seat Ibiza.
Belgian Enzo Ide is one of the other confirmed drivers. For a few weeks he has been preparing for the Barcelona appointment. Last weekend he competed in the fifth and sixth rounds of the Scandinavian RallyX Nordic championship, held in Finland, where he currently ranks fifth. The next two rounds of the RallyX Nordic won’t be held until mid-August, so the Catalan city is the Belgian’s next appointment, where he will also compete at the wheel of the Audi S1 Quattro, from the EKS team, just as he did in 2018 .
An experienced pilot
Dutchman Kevin Abbring is one of the latest confirmations so far, and he will try to shine with the help of the ‘UNKORRUPTED’ team, at the wheel of a Renault Megane. In addition, he will become the first Dutchman to compete in a full season of the World Cup, and he wanted to share the joy with all his Instagram followers.
He is a very experienced pilot. In 2013 he won the Peugeot 208 French Rally Cup, and in 2017 he claimed victory in Belgium’s largest rally, the Ypres Rally. In 2019 he competed in two rounds of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, finishing fourth in Norway and Sweden.
His commitment to the environment is very prominent. In 2010 he became the first Dutch driver to win a rally in a biomethane car.
A talent union
Finnish driver Niclas Grönholm, son of two-time world rally champion Marcus Grönholm, and Hungarian Krisztian Szabo join forces with the Gronholm RX team and will jointly participate in the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with the Hyundai i20.
Both have experience in this competition. At last year’s World Cup, Grönholm took fourth place. On the other hand, Szabo, double champion of the Super1600 category, trained to do a full season in the 2019 FIA World Rallycross Championship, where he finished in tenth place. In this new edition, the objective of both is to join forces to fight for the championship and be tough rivals to beat.
As we announced earlier in the week, Kevin Hansen has also confirmed his participation, for yet another year, with the HANSEN Motorsport team, at the wheel of the Peugeot 208 RX, one of the best cars on the FIA World Rallycross Championship grid. More riders participating in the Catalunya RX will be announced soon.
