Kristofferson is still unstoppable after dazzling in the DoubleHeader of Riga, two frenetic days of competition in which the five-time world champion overtook the Hansen brothers, moving them a little further away from winning the first electric world championship.
The first competition of the weekend did not start well for Johan Kristofferson, finishing out of first place during the intermediate qualifying. In the final he put in a superb drive, taking the top spot from grid leader Kevin Hansen. The five-time world champion described his victory as “lucky”, but his great drive confirmed his double victory in the new electric era.
On Sunday, in the second race of the weekend, the result was replicated: Kristofferson emerged victorious in a race in which Kevin Hansen again missed out on first place, this time by less than three tenths of a second. The youngest of the Hansen family, the race escaped him at the same moment as on Saturday: in the last of the five laps where Kristofferson took advantage of Kevin’s youth to snatch, for the second time in a weekend, the podium and write his 30th victory in World RX and a double of victories in this new Double Header format premiered in Riga.
A weekend that, as the five times world champion pointed out, is based on the “small details” and leaves for history a hat-trick of victories for Kristofferson in this new electric era.
Less than two months are left for CatalunyaRX, which will be held on the weekend of 29 and 30 October at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, an ideal venue to witness the first 100% electric race in the history of the FIA.
